With faith that good will prevail – CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER!
The anticipation of one of the greatest Christian holidays is a special source of joy. However, this past year has brought many negative events that have impacted us all. Festive atmospheres, memories from earliest childhood, carefree time spent with family and friends – have created vivid holiday images – all of which are now clouded by worry for the upcoming winter.
We all need a dose of optimism to carry our own cross bravely in these difficult times. Belief in the ultimate victory of good is the only protection standing before the dark forces that surround us every day. That is why we need it more than ever.
Christmas is a symbol of creation and unity, best exemplified through generosity and charity. For centuries, Christians have professed their faith by providing help and comfort to those who are most in need.
In our longstanding humanitarian work, we have witnessed tens of thousands of children welcoming Christmas holidays with only a piece of bread and a glass of milk, freezing in old, dilapidated houses, fearful every moment that they might lose what little they have.
The newborn Christ will knock on their homes this year as well. The frozen hands of children will reach for Him knowing that He is the only hope left for humanity and that thousands of Christians will follow Him and do everything they can to improve the situation in their homes.
The Charity Serbs for Serbs invites good-willed people to join us in launching our traditional Christmas campaign, and to bring Christmas joy to the childhoods of Lutka, Ana, Stefan, Nesha, Marija and hundreds of other children in need!
Lutka (12) and Ana (11)
Lutka and Ana Rašković live in a mud house in the village of Svinjište on the border of Kuršumlija, Podujevo and Medveđa municipalities. They can only be reached by tractor or powerful all-terrain vehicle. In winter, when it snows, even that is almost impossible. The Rašković family also has Dušan (13) and Aleksandra (11).
The conditions in which they live shocked us. A long rectangular room with a dirt floor and worn-out furniture serves as both a kitchen and a living room. The ceiling, full of patched holes, looks as if it will give way at any moment, causing unrest and anxiety about what may happen in the near future.
Lutka and Ana’s biggest wish is to have a new house, closer to school and friends!
We are planning to buy a house for the Rašković family. More than 40,000 euros are needed to complete this project.
Stefan (8) and Nešo (10)
Can you imagine children living in a dilapidated house, not having enough beds, turning on a generator in order to study because they don’t have electricity, bathing in a trough because they don’t have a bathroom?
Stefan and Nešo Slavujević from Jarebica, near Loznica, live in such a home with their sister Danka (13) and brother Dejan (15). Nešo is an excellent student and studies hard even under these conditions. Danka would like to be a pastry chef, while Dejan would like to study veterinary medicine after high school.
Stefan and Nešo’s greatest wish is to have a new home, without holes!
We plan to provide the Slavujević family with a house. More than 40,000 euros are needed to complete the project.
Marija (8)
Marija Zubović lives with her family in a dilapidated house in the community of Čepak, in the municipality of Kotor Varoš. The Zubovićs can live there for only a few more months. They still do not know where they will go after that. Will they find another house or will they have to live on the streets?
Maria has sisters Maja (11), Marijana (10), Angela (4) and brother Gavrilo (1). Unfortunately, Maja has an intellectual disability and attends a school with a special program, and Gavrilo still hasn’t been properly diagnosed.
Marija’s biggest wish is to live in her own home, carefree!
We are planning to build a house for the Zubović family. More than 40,000 euros are needed to complete the project.
